Partner as an institution
Universities, teaching hospitals, agricultural research institutes, and other Nigerian institutions can become Axiom partner institutions. Institutional partnership is the primary sourcing channel for Year 1 — it is an active relationship, not a passive affiliation.
What partnership means
Partner institutions work with Axiom to identify outstanding postgraduate projects within their departments — projects that have a clear path to becoming working systems. This means knowing your research environment well enough to surface strong candidates, and being willing to endorse and support them through the program cycle.
Axiom does not replace or bypass institutional structures. Projects must have genuine alignment between the student and the department. Partner institutions are expected to provide the institutional context that makes that alignment real.
What partner institutions receive
- Formal Axiom affiliation, which students and departments can cite publicly
- Priority consideration for project sourcing in future program cycles
- Inclusion in Axiom convenings, publications, and public communications
- Connection to the broader network of partner institutions and fellows
- Access to technical and product support resources developed through the program
What we expect from partner institutions
- Actively identifying strong postgraduate projects within relevant departments
- Endorsing candidates and confirming institutional alignment before nomination
- Providing institutional support to enrolled fellows — access to data, users, facilities, and supervisors
- Participating in the Axiom network: engaging with convenings and contributing to the broader program
What we look for in partner institutions
We assess institutional applications on three things: the quality of the institution's existing research environment, the relevance of its work to Axiom's tracks, and its demonstrated willingness to engage actively — not just in name.
We are not looking for the most prestigious institutions. We are looking for the most serious ones — institutions where faculty and postgraduate students are genuinely working on the problems Axiom cares about, and where the conditions for a working system to emerge already exist.
How to apply
Institutional applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. To begin the process, write to us with a brief description of your institution, its relevant research focus, and a short account of the postgraduate projects or students you have in mind.
